Workplace Accident Statistics


Between 2010 & 2019, there have been a total of 489 workplace fatalities (As of 8th April 2020 - Source H.S.A. website) in Ireland.

There have been 14 fatalities so far in 2020, so far & we are only about a third of the way through the year.

That is 14 people too many!!

That is someone’s family member, father, mother, brother, sister, cousin or friend.

 

Below, are some of the FACTS. (Source: HSA Summary of Workplace Injury, Illness & Fatality Statistics Report 2019)

  • The most hazardous sectors are still Agriculture, Construction & Fishing.
  • The main causes of non-fatal accidents are Manual Handling & Slips, Trips & Falls.
  • Approximately 21% of all non-fatal accidents in 2019 involve Non-Irish workers.
  • Sectors with the highest injury rates per 1,000 workers include Construction, Agriculture & Health & Social Work.
  • The highest occupational illness rates per 1,000 workers are in the Agriculture, Education & Information/Communication Sectors.

 

Remember, ALL Accidents Are Preventable.
